Wayne Rooney Today: Officially, Wayne Rooney is no longer the manager of Plymouth Argyle. His short seven-month career came to an end on Tuesday with the announcement. At the moment, the Championship club is at the bottom of the standings.

Rooney led Plymouth through a period of severe hardship. After he took over in May, the squad has lost 13 games and only won four of its 23 league games. They are now just four points away from being down.

Wayne Rooney today quits Plymouth after 7 months in his coaching role.

The former England captain was under more stress after recent heartbreaking losses. These included two 4-0 losses to Bristol City and Coventry, as well as a 6-1 thumping by Norwich City.

Rooney expressed gratitude in his farewell statement:

"The Plymouth board, employees, players, and supporters have my gratitude. This club is a special location because of you. I will never lose the memories I made at Home Park because of its unique environment."

Plymouth Argyle confirmed the departure through an official statement:

"Wayne Rooney and the club have decided to split ways with immediate effect. We wish him and his team continued success and appreciate their hard work."

Rooney has had a difficult management career. He was fired from Birmingham after 15 games last season, which resulted in the club's going down.

In the face of financial difficulties and point deductions, he earned recognition for his work at Derby County. He was unable to stop the team's relegation, though. He managed DC United in the MLS after departing Derby in 2022, and then he returned to England with Plymouth.

Rooney had a career as a player that was just legendary. Before Harry Kane overtook him in 2023, he was the all-time leading scorer for Manchester United and the record holder for England. He won five Premier League championships, a Champions League, a Europa League, an FA Cup, and a League Cup during his 13 years at United.

Rooney's legacy as a player remains with his difficulties as manager. But given his previous managerial setbacks, it's unclear what he will do next.
