Becht, a second-year redshirt, shown his versatility. He added a dashing score to his amazing stat line, tossed for 270 yards, and recorded three passing touchdowns. The game's final score wasn't the only story that dominated headlines, even his best efforts.

Cam Ward Makes History, Then Sits Out

During the first half, Miami quarterback Cam Ward set his legacy. Case Keenum's record for the most touchdown passes in a career was surpassed by the senior. In the first quarter, Ward hit Jacolby George for a 4-yard touchdown, marking his historic 156th touchdown.

Ward led Miami by a slim margin of 31-28 at the half after throwing for 190 yards and three touchdowns. However, many got confused when the star quarterback failed to return after the interval.

The Hurricanes struggled without Ward, even with backup quarterback Emory Williams starting. The choice to sit Ward in such a close race sparked outrage on social media.

"All decisions regarding players are private," Miami head coach Mario Cristobal said after the game, refusing to provide further details. While in, Cam gave it his all.

Ward's path to this great occasion has been everything but typical. He started out at Become Word as an ignored talent. After that, he given to Washington State before spending his last season in Miami.

Ward had 4,123 passing yards, 36 touchdowns, and seven stops at the end of the season. After losing to Travis Hunter, the two-way wonder from Colorado, he also qualified as a finalist for the Heisman Trophy.

Cyclones Make History of Their Own

Iowa State's performance created history, but Miami's choice to sit Ward made headlines. The win was the 11th for the Cyclones, the most in the program's 133-year existence. After winning MVP of the game, Rocco Becht celebrated in style.

He chose a Pop-Tart mascot that like a cinnamon bun to go with him to the famous great toaster. It was a special honour for Becht and head coach Matt Campbell to "taste" their victory snack together.

The unique customs of the Pop-Tarts Bowl have long been well-known. This year was no exception, giving supporters a lot to discuss long after the final siren blew.

Criticism Surrounds Ward’s Decision

Not everyone agreed with Ward's choice to skip the second half. Concerns grew up by analysts such as Todd McShay and David Pollack. "Has anyone ever dropped out at halftime of a bowl game?" asked Pollack.

Today, Cam Ward did it. "I understand the current college football climate," McShay continued. But leaving a game that was so close? It's difficult to understand, particularly for a leader like Ward.

A Memorable Bowl Game

The 2024 Pop-Tarts Bowl will be remembered for its exciting end and great achievements, even the controversy. One of Miami's icons left his mark on the record books, and Iowa State won a game that defined the program.

Finally, the Pop-Tarts Bowl this year featured everything: historic performances, emotional moments, and a celebration with a spicy flavor.
