PlayStation Portal: Sony has introduced cloud streaming for PlayStation 5 games on the newly launched PlayStation Portal. The PlayStation Portal is a handheld gaming device that was recently unveiled by Sony. While its primary focus is on remote play, the addition of cloud streaming expands the possibilities for gaming. Users can now access their PS5 game library remotely, even when the console is offline or in use.
Sony has announced an exciting new update for the PlayStation Portal, which will start rolling out today in some regions, with a European release scheduled for Wednesday. The update introduces several improvements to the audio experience, ensuring better sound quality while using the device.
One of the key changes is an adjustment to the speaker audio output. Now, when the audio level is set to the minimum, the volume will be lower, providing a more balanced sound. A notable new feature is the ability to control your PlayStation Link device settings straight from the PS Portal’s Settings menu. This allows you to fine-tune the volume and sidetone settings, giving you full control over your audio preferences.
In addition to these audio improvements, Sony is also introducing a beta version of cloud streaming support for the PlayStation Portal. This long-awaited feature will allow PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers to stream select PS5 games directly to their handheld device, even without needing a PS5 console. This is a significant addition for those who want to enjoy their games on the go, no matter where they are.
The beta version of cloud streaming for PS Portal will be available to PlayStation Plus Premium members in a wide range of countries, including Austria, Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, the United Kingdom, the United States, and more. This feature provides greater flexibility for gamers who want to access their games on their handheld device, regardless of the location of their PS5.
To access the beta version of cloud streaming, users need a few essential requirements. First, you will need a PlayStation Portal remote player. Second, a PlayStation Network account is necessary to get started. Third, an active PlayStation Plus Premium membership is required to unlock the cloud streaming feature. Additionally, you will need access to a broadband Wi-Fi internet connection.
When it comes to internet speed, there are some specific requirements. To start a cloud streaming session, a minimum upload and download speed of 5Mbps is needed. If you want to stream games in 720p, you will need at least 7Mbps, while streaming in 1080p requires a minimum of 13Mbps.
Once the beta is live, simply update your PlayStation Portal to the latest system software to access it easily. After that, simply follow these steps: open the “Quick Menu,” go to “Settings” on your PS Portal, and select the “Cloud Streaming (Beta)” option. The toggle for this feature will be off by default, but you can turn it on to start streaming PS5 games.
With this update, Sony is bringing a new level of convenience and functionality to the PlayStation Portal, making it easier than ever to enjoy your favorite PS5 games on the go.
