Sky Brown: Sky Brown is pushing through the pain of a dislocated shoulder as she competes in Paris. Today, she aims for gold at the Paris 2024 Olympics, hoping to add to her bronze from Tokyo.
Brown was Team GB's youngest ever Summer Games medallist when she achieved the feat in Japan three years ago at the age of 13.
The last few months have been plagued by injury after she tore the MCL in her knee, while she also failed to qualify for surfing ahead of these Games.
Now 16-year-old Brown is back and ready to compete in the skateboarding park event again - despite dislocating her shoulder just before the start of the Games. She will have an operation when she returns home after the Olympics, but is prepared to deal with the pain in Paris first.
"Brown recently shared, 'Every time I've faced an injury, I've bounced back even stronger. Now, it's the moment for me to seriously consider my next steps.' It really sets my heart on fire - it happens, it's part of life." Brown is a member of the GB team, joining teenager Lola Tambling and 50-year-old Andy Macdonald.
When will Sky Brown be competing?
Brown is set to kick off with the qualifying round, starting at 11:30 AM BST. She will compete in heat three, which is scheduled for around 1.15pm BST.
The final, starting at 4:30 PM, will feature the top eight skaters from the 22 participants.
A skateboarding park: what is it?
The park competition takes place on a varied course that includes bowls and many turns, which athletes use to gain speed and perform tricks in the air.
Skateboarders are judged on the height and speed of the tricks they perform during jumps, as well as their ability to use the entire surface and all obstacles. They run three 45-second races, with the best of the three counting as their final round score.
Street events take place on a straightforward ‘street-like’ course, with stairs, railings, etc., much like the urban environments where skateboarding originated.
Athletes perform a variety of tricks and are also judged on how they control their boards during two 45-second runs and five tricks they perform.
