Dylan Holloway: Dylan Holloway and Philip Broberg are now officially part of the St. Louis Blues. Despite efforts by the Edmonton Oilers to potentially match the offer sheets put forth by Blues GM Doug Armstrong, Tuesday morning brought a different outcome. Both Holloway and Broberg, who played significant roles in the Oilers' journey to the 2024 Stanley Cup Final, are set to move south to Missouri.

Dylan Holloway and Philip Broberg trade from Oilers to Blues.

"On Tuesday, Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman reported that Philip Broberg and Dylan Holloway have been informed they'll be joining the St. Louis Blues. It seems the Oilers are looking to create more flexibility this season, as they don't see these players fitting into their current plans."

Broberg will earn $4,580,917 for each of the next two seasons, and the Blues will send a second-round draft pick to the Oilers as compensation. Holloway is set to earn $2,290,457 on a similar two-year deal, in exchange for St. Louis sending a third-round selection to Edmonton.

Blues reporter Andy Strickland revealed that the Oilers initially proposed a two-year contract worth $1.1 million AAV to Broberg and a three-year deal at $1.05 million to Holloway.

In a separate transaction between Edmonton and St. Louis, the Oilers acquired the rights to defenseman Paul Fischer as well as the Blues' third-round selection in the 2028 NHL Draft in exchange for future considerations. Fisher is entering his second season with Notre Dame in the NCAA after being selected 138th overall in the 2023 draft.

Dylan Holloway and Philip Broberg both suffered difficult losses for the Oilers

The Oilers were probably hoping they could pick up the young duo for pretty cheap, but they found themselves in a tough spot when the Blues surprisingly included them both on the offer sheet.

Broberg, 23, played 81 regular-season games for Edmonton over the past three seasons after being selected 8th overall in the 2019 NHL Draft. He scored two goals and 13 points in that span, and also played in 20 postseason contests. That included 10 games leading up to the 2024 Finals, where he scored two goals and an assist.

Holloway, 22, is also a first-round pick; he was selected 14th overall by the Oilers in the 2020 NHL Draft. He has scored nine goals and 18 points in 89 regular-season tilts since entering the league in 2022-23. He participated in all 25 playoff games for Edmonton in 2024, scoring five goals and totaling seven points.

The Oilers will now have to lose two impressive first-round picks to a team that has more salary cap flexibility. According to Section 10.3 of the NHL Collective Bargaining Agreement, they had seven days to exercise their right of first refusal on each player.

This is the first offer sheet we've seen since Jesperi Kotkaniemi made the jump from the Montreal Canadiens to the Carolina Hurricanes back in August 2021.
