Davante Adams: This week on FS1's "Speak," Davante Adams mentioned that he doesn't favor either Aidan O'Connell or Gardner Minshew in the upcoming Las Vegas Raiders quarterback competition, which is slated to begin when training camp starts later this month.

"I want whoever looks the best when it's a live bullet, that's who I'm going to pick," Adams said. "In the end, all I really want is someone who's confident and willing to take action when the moment calls for it. So, whoever it is, that's who I want to throw the ball."

Davante Adams discusses Raiders' QB battle, Aidan O'Connell in focus.

In the quarterback matchups we're seeing this year, where rookies often challenge veteran players, the Raiders have a unique situation: their second-year starter is competing against a newly signed free-agent quarterback. Given the money Minshew was offered (two years, $25 million and $15 million guaranteed), one might think he has the upper hand. Yet, throughout the offseason, people in Vegas have insisted that O'Connell has the upper hand.

Adams continued that trend this week, saying that right now, O'Connell's job is going to be lost.

"I think right now, if I had to say, I think Aidan has the job because obviously he's been here before, and it was the same," Adams said. "He was running more with the 1s. Until Gardner comes in and takes the job away from him, I think right now it's Aidan's job. He's doing what he has to do to keep it.

"We still have to keep working and doing what we have to do to move forward and get better. We can definitely be better than where we are — he and I, our relationship, he personally, even me. This time of year, it's not where you're going to be at your best.  So, throughout camp, when we really start putting on the pads and doing the real deal, I think that’s when we’ll be able to decide who that guy is going to be, and I’ll continue to work with that guy and keep that camaraderie going.”

O'Connell authored an up-and-down rookie campaign in 10 starts, but coach Antonio Pierce continued to show faith in the young QB, especially by giving him first-team representation during spring work.

Training camp and preseason action will determine whether or not O'Connell can keep the job or Minshew will ultimately snatch it away.
