Tyler Kolek: Tyler Kolek made headlines on Thursday afternoon when the New York Knicks acquired him with the 34th pick in the second round of the 2024 NBA Draft thanks to a trade with Portland. Kolek, who represents Marquette University, brings promising talent and potential to the Knicks' roster, marking a significant step forward for the team's future.
Standing at 6-foot-3, the point guard had his best season as a senior, averaging 15.1 points per game. He started in each of the 31 games he played.
Kolek earned plenty of praise during his three years at Marquette after transferring from George Mason after his freshman year. He was named All-Big East twice, the 2022-23 Big East Player of the Year, and the Big East Tournament MVP in 2023.
The Cumberland, Rhode Island native also posted career bests in assists (7.7), rebounds (4.9) and free throw percentage (85 percent) in 2023.
This is the second pick the Knicks have made in the draft, after selecting 18-year-old French prospect Pacome Daddiet 25th on Wednesday night.
This week has been filled with a lot of change for the franchise, as they’ve made several changes so far in the offseason, including trading Mikal Bridges from the Nets for Bojan Bogdanovic and a 2026 second-round pick, four unprotected first-round picks (2025, 2027, 2029 and 2031), a 2025 protected first-round pick (via Milwaukee), a 2025 second-round pick and a 2028 unprotected pick swap.
Yesterday, the Knicks made a bold move by finalizing a lucrative five-year, $212.5 million contract with O.G. Anunoby, whom they acquired in a trade just before last season's trade deadline. This significant signing underscores their commitment to bolstering the team's roster with top-tier talent for the seasons ahead.
